Veterans Curation Program
Seeking Military Veterans! Please submit an application and DD214 through our website, www.veteranscurationprogram.org
The Veterans Curation Program is currently seeking applicants for a five-month program that provides employment, vocational training, and technology skills to veterans seeking to improve their access to the mainstream job market.
The VCP was created to process at-risk archaeological collections belonging to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Many of these collections require rehabilitation in order to meet federal standards, and the VCP employs veterans as laboratory technicians to perform this work. This includes cleaning, re-housing, photographing, and cataloging, providing veterans a valuable bridging experience from active duty the public sector.
Honorably discharged veterans, primarily from the Afghanistan and Iraq conflicts, are employed for up to 5 months in both part-time and full-time positions. The VCP provides veterans with an opportunity to receive competitive pay while learning new job skills through technical training in a peer-to-peer veterans' environment. Veterans acquire skills, including: computer database management, records management, photographic and scanning technologies, Microsoft Office® software proficiency, processing & curation of archaeological collections, a knowledge of archaeology & history, vocabulary & writing skills, and increased interpersonal communication skills.
The work products developed in archaeological curation readily translate to entry level skills for the museum, forensics, administrative, and records management fields. Jobs at the VCP are tailored to fit the capabilities of disabled veterans.
The next VCP session will commence at the beginning of May and run until the end of September. This is a paid, five-month position that does not offer benefits. Technicians are unable to be extended after this five-month term.
