Position Overview

The Division of Developmental Disabilities is seeking to hire a Dental Hygienist for the Shapiro Center located in Kankakee, Illinois to provide dental treatment and educational services for individuals in the outpatient dental clinic. Administers oral prophylactic treatments as prescribed by a licensed dentist. Assists the dentist in administering treatments and making dental x-rays.

Essential Functions

Performs technical and advisory services in dental hygiene, including prophylaxis.
Assists in preparing individuals for dental treatment including lifting individuals from wheelchairs into the dental chair.
Instructs direct care and nursing staff in dental health in-service programs to educate them on proper tooth brushing techniques, recognizing abnormal oral conditions and diet and nutrition measures as they affect dental health.
Keeps records of activities performed within area of responsibility including annual review summaries.
Performs infection control procedures to prevent cross contamination.
Inputs Continuous Quality Indicator data on computer on.
Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of high school, supplemented by completion of two (2) years of college with course work in dental hygiene.
Requires Illinois certificate as registered dental hygienist.

Conditions of Employment

Requires the ability to utilize office equipment, including personal computers.
Requires the ability to work after business hours, weekends and holidays.
Requires the ability to travel in the performance of job duties.
Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
