Where: Poolesville, Maryland (National Institutes of Health Animal Center)

Type: Non-Exempt

Compensation: $34.00 – 39.00/hour

Work Schedule: Full-time, Day Shift

Skookum is seeking an experienced and reliable General Maintenance Worker III-HVAC with a positive attitude.

 

Typical duties include but are not limited to:

Diagnose causes of problems and/or failures in heating/air conditioning systems and identify equipment, system, and/or replacement needs including centrifugal chiller units in excess of 500 tons, high pressure steam boilers, hydronic systems and all auxiliary components.
Install, repair, and troubleshoot HVAC malfunctions as required by customer.
Perform routine and preventative maintenance/repairs on heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment including pumps, motors, controllers, air handlers, fan coils, piping, etc.
Painting, carpentry, siding repairs/replacement, glass replacement in doors and windows, minor plumbing, masonry, concrete repairs, and minor electrical work.
Replacing electrical receptacles and switches, fixtures, and bathroom exhaust fan motors.
Ensure completed work meets quality control standards.
Communicate directly with the customer and supervisors; inform the customer of unexpected or additional repairs and determine customer needs.
Respond to customer inquiries and complaints.
Provide diagnoses and suggest solutions and repairs to customer and supervisors.
Follow safety procedures and policies while exercising judgment, flexibility, creativity, and sensitivity in response to changing situations and needs and safety procedures.
Enter all work order data into Maximo.
Work both independently and in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
Qualifications:

Minimum of eight (8) year of Facilities/Grounds Maintenance/HVAC is preferred; Equivalent combination of experience and education allowed.
CFC Universal Certification required.
Maryland HVAC Journeyman’s License required.
Proficiency with Maximo Asset Management System or similar enterprise asset management system preferred.
Ability to read and understand schematics and blueprints required.
Knowledge of commercial heating/air conditioning/refrigeration systems and controls, painting, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, and electrical work preferred.
This position is considered essential. Must have the ability to work all shifts, overtime, and weekends to meet operational needs.
Physical Requirements:

Employees must have the ability to perform the following physical demands for extended periods of time with or without assistance. The physical demands of this position may be reasonably accommodated for individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions on a case-by-case basis.

Position duties require working outside in the weather.  Conditions may include rain, cold and/or heat.
Perform heavy manual labor for extended periods of time.
Must have the perseverance to work effectively under pressure for extended periods of time.
Requirements:

Valid state driver’s license is required with the ability to obtain and maintain coverage by Skookum’s insurance carrier.
Must be able to obtain and maintain applicable security clearances and installation access. A background check and E-Verify will be conducted for this position.
