Senior Program Manager, Launch - Amazon Physical Stores

Amazon

The Team: Amazon Go is a new kind of store with no lines and no checkout. You simply use the Amazon Go app to enter the store, take what you want from our selection of fresh, delicious meals and grocery essentials, and go. Our checkout-free shopping experience is made possible by our Just Walk Out Technology. It automatically detects when products are taken from or returned to the shelves and keeps track of them in a virtual cart. When you're done shopping, you just leave the store. Shortly after, we'll charge your Amazon account and send you a receipt. Check it out at amazon.com/go. Designed and custom-built by Amazonians, our technology uses computer vision, sensor fusion, and advanced machine learning. Innovation is part of our DNA. We're looking for people who want to join an ambitious team that continues to push the state of the art in computer vision, machine learning, distributed systems and hardware design.

In this role you'll have the opportunity to get in on the ground floor of a game-changing initiative. You'll be working on challenging problems that need creative solutions. You should be comfortable building process, challenging assumptions, and thinking of creative ways to tackle challenges.

The Role of a Senior Program Manager in Tech Launch is widely scoped - it means being responsible for technical execution, process engineering, and cross functional project management. This role requires a blend of technical acumen, launch project management, and operational execution. Our Sr. Program Managers deliver large, complex, and business critical projects that are integral to the launch of the Amazon Go initiative. These projects need to be delivered while cultivating a high degree of ownership in the resolution of technical and operational issues. This role requires the development of relationships with a wide group of stakeholders, including the management of external partners to reach project objectives.

Driving standardization of process and the creation of documentation is a major component of the role. The Sr. PM leverages technology product launch, advanced operations program management knowledge and techniques to drive achievement of store launch schedules, while balancing timeline and resource requirements through analysis and timely escalations. The ability to utilize judgement and domain knowledge to anticipate issues before they block launch, as well as the ability to influence and drive change through a matrix organization without direct authority, is critical to achieve business objectives. Sr. PM's deliver high impact reviews to the entire organization through timely retrospective meetings with stakeholders.

A successful candidate will be able to drive a strategic vision, play an integral role in determining strategy, resources, features, schedules, and process for cross-company projects. They operate with significant autonomy, and demonstrate creativity and judgement when confronted with complex issues. This leader must have strong written and verbal communications skills, as well as an entrepreneurial spirit, the ability to influence others and dive deep, and a passion for technology. The scope of work will have a large and measurable impact on the Amazon Go Launch project.
