Lawrence Berkeley National Lab's ( ) Office of the Chief Financial Officer ( ) Division has an opening for a Principal Instructional Designer to join the team.

In this exciting role, you will be responsible for the design and development of training activities that are complex, highly visible, and represent OCFO professionally through the Lab. You will be involved in planning, design, content development, and coordination of learning experiences for financial business processes and systems, and plays a significant role in impacting mission-critical learning programs for the entire Laboratory community.

What You Will Do:

Serve as a primary instructional designer for designing, developing, and updating classroom, eLearning, and blended financial training and employee development curriculum.

Develop strategic training plans for internal OCFO staff and the greater Lab community, in accordance with the OCFO leadership team.

Plan and coordinate with OCFO staff and other Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to develop quality financial and/or business process training including, where instructionally appropriate, the development of classroom training and other methods including eLearning courses, graphics, video, and sound media to create appropriate instruction course modules meeting the learner's educational needs.

Apply intermediate-level knowledge of eLearning production, including image handling, video production, publishing and design, presentation preparation, and animation techniques to develop highly engaging and interactive eLearning courses for computer and mobile platforms.

Create project plans and design documents for complex initiatives.

Provide oversight, quality control, and coordination of all training and development-related work products produced individually and by the OCFO Web and eLearning Development Specialist.

Maintain accurate and current course offerings and employee financial training data in the Berkeley Lab Training system.

Develop and employ effective and creative marketing techniques and strategies to ensure training information and course announcements are communicated effectively to maximize instructor effort.

Establish processes and controls to ensure business requirements for financial training are met.

Maintain knowledge and awareness of most current systems applications used by the Laboratory to ensure training and materials are appropriate.

Coach subject matter experts serving as instructors on sound course delivery methods proving engaging and effective learning experiences that meet established learning objectives.

Use high-level, cutting-edge technology to all training events when practical.

Proactively utilize assessments, course evaluations, comments, and suggestions to improve current training programs, format, and materials.

Recommend resolution to issues of moderate to complex scope; develop new training programs as necessary.

Provide ad hoc reports as necessary using the Berkeley Lab Training system and Business Intelligence Reporting system.

What Is Required:

Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Business or other business-related disciplines, and a minimum of six (6) years of experience in an area of instructional design, eLearning design, and implementation, or related field.

Substantial background and demonstrated professional-level experience in instruction and facilitation, program development, and planning and coordination.

Demonstrated experience in researching and designing course content, classroom, and e-learning, including tailoring content to customer needs.

Knowledge of technology, user experience standards, and adult education principles to recommend appropriate action.

Excellent and effective oral and written communication skills coupled with excellent presentation skills that enable and encourage learning in a safe environment. Ability to train others in effective classroom delivery techniques.

Demonstrated ability to perform all of the following specific instructional design/learning experience development areas:

Independently determine appropriate instructional design models and delivery mechanisms to support instructional design needs and customer requests.

Development of classroom (physical and virtual) and online courses.

Application of instructional design methodology (ADDIE) learning theories and rapid development training development principles to produce a wide variety of effective and engaging courses, print, eLearning, and other training solutions.

Advanced ability to use eLearning development tools, specifically Articulate 360.

Multimedia development including interactive learning objects, video, and voiceover production.

Advanced expertise using MS Office to produce instructional documentation, presentations, and instructor/participant guides.

Demonstrated leadership skills to ensure courses are completed and delivered in a timely and engaging manner. Content must be accurate, current, and thoughtful. Ensure SMEs have reviewed content and that audience needs and interests are factored into the design.

Ability to build strong partnerships with SMEs, and employees across disciplines.

Strong project management skills with the ability to self-manage multiple development projects and deadlines.

Seeks out and participates in continuous educational activities to maintain/improve expertise in both technical and instructional design skills.

Additional Desired Qualifications:

Hand on work experience in a financial organization.

Familiarity with Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory policies and procedures.

Familiarity with the Department of Energy processes and regulations.

This is a full time career appointment.

Full-time, M-F, exempt (monthly paid) from overtime pay.

Salary is commensurate with experience.
