JOB SUMMARY

The Neurodiagnostic Technician 1, under general supervision, will perform electroencephalogram (EEG) or nerve conduction velocity (NCV) testing using proper technique for placing and attaching the electrodes and for positioning the patient.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE

Interprets wave characteristics accurately during each test to detect evidence of brain disorders or nerve disorders, and provides interpretation to the Neurologist.

Monitors and records patient's reaction to specific activities such as breathing directions or the introduction of various stimuli, in a thorough and accurate manner.

Performs accurate EEG recordings of NCV testing in a hospital setting with the ability to transport equipment carefully and safely. Adapts methods for instrumentation to obtain optimal results based on history, clinical observations and test findings.

Summarizes patient's neurologic status and clinical history from the chart, patient or other persons. Explains recording procedure to patient and family members.

Cleans and maintains equipment in good operating condition. Performs minor maintenance and repair of lab equipment, as needed, and promptly reports the need for major repair to the appropriate party.

Produces clinical documentation of patient information.

Is available for On Call as assigned.

KEY SUCCESS FACTORS

Basic understanding of neuroanatomy and physiology, neurodiagnostic instrumentation, pattern recognition and various medical and pharmacological conditions that influence the neurodiagnostic recording.

Ability to work effectively and efficiently under pressure in a stressful environment, and often without relief.

Ability to communicate with patients, allay fears and elicit patient cooperation.

Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with other members of the health care team.

Basic computer skills, including but not limited to: typing, information security, electronic medical documentation, hand held scanning and email.

QUALIFICATIONS

- EDUCATION - Associate's or 2 years of work experience above the minimum qualification

- EXPERIENCE - Less than 1 Year of Experience

- CERTIFICATION/LICENSE/REGISTRATION -
NON RQI AHA BLS (BLSNRQI): BLS or BLS within 30 days of hire or transfer.
