Position Title: Social Media Manager

Location: Remote

Reports to: Director of Communications and Storytelling

Status: Full Time, Exempt

 

Position Summary

IllumiNative seeks a Social Media Manager who will report to the Director of Communications and Storytelling and be an integral member of the Narrative+ Power Impact team. This individual will play a critical role in advancing and shaping the narrative across IllumiNative’s social media platforms using research-informed narrative strategy. The role is centered not just on managing social media accounts but on leading IllumiNative's digital organizing and engagement efforts to activate meaningful dialogue with our audience.

The Social Media Manager will develop and implement a strategic publishing approach, informed by our groundbreaking research, ensuring that content resonates with the audience and aligns with IllumiNative's mission. This position will be tasked with identifying, engaging, and mobilizing allies to form a cohesive online community, empowering them to amplify IllumiNative's voice and integrate its perspectives into broader discussions on relevant issues.

Responsibilities include crafting compelling social media posts, using data-driven insights for content creation and audience engagement strategies. The Social Media Manager will also enhance and protect IllumiNative’s brand and mission, ensuring an impactful social media presence that aligns with strategic goals. As a key ambassador for IllumiNative, this individual will embody the organization's values and vision, leveraging digital organizing tools to expand reach and influence across multiple social media platforms. Their commitment to fostering day-to-day interactions on social media channels will be pivotal in building and sustaining an organized, active, and informed online community advancing social change and building power for Native people.

Our mission is to build power for Native peoples by amplifying contemporary Native voices, stories, and issues to advance justice, equity, and self- determination. Responsibilities and Tasks

●      Create and Author Organizational Social Media Strategy: Develop a comprehensive social media strategy that includes regularly scheduled content to drive growth across IllumiNative's brand and social media platforms, as well as rapid response strategies for timely engagement.

●      Develop Quarterly Content Calendar: Implement a quarterly content calendar, allowing time for the IllumiNative leadership team and Narrative + Impact team to review and provide input, ensuring strategic alignment with organizational goals.

●      Provide Monthly Reports and Weekly Updates: Generate monthly reports and weekly updates on social media metrics to gauge reach and performance, analyze content effectiveness, and offer strategic recommendations for ongoing improvements.

●      Manage IllumiNative Social Channels: Oversee IllumiNative’s social media channels, respond to inquiries, connect audiences with resources, and monitor engagement such as comments, direct messages, and tags, ensuring alignment with key messaging and communication strategies.

●      Manage Social Media Content Creation: Coordinate across the Narrative + Impact Team for the creation of written content, graphics, and videos for IllumiNative’s social media channels, ensuring consistency and quality. Author copy including asset and caption writing.

●      Collaborate Across Departments: Work closely with various departments to align social media activities with the broader objectives of IllumiNative, ensuring a unified approach.

●      Lead Influencer Engagement: Engage with Influencer Manager to strategize for various IllumiNative projects to build a communicative culture and enhance internal capacity for increasing reach and influence.

●      Create and Disseminate Social Media Toolkits: Develop social media toolkits for influencers and partners for IllumiNative campaigns and projects to ensure cohesive and effective messaging.

●      Assist in Communications Plans for Projects: Support IllumiNative projects by contributing to their communications plans, ensuring they effectively convey the intended message and support overall goals.

●      Identify Opportunities for Mission Advancement: Monitor social media platforms and channels to identify opportunities for IllumiNative to engage in current conversations and trends, aligning with the mission.

●      Implement Brand Guide and Tone: Apply the brand guide and tone consistently in social copy, posts, and communications to maintain brand consistency and identity.

●      Run and Analyze Social Media Reports: Utilize IllumiNative’s social media monitoring and listening tools to analyze trending topics and strategically insert IllumiNative into relevant conversations, providing insights and strategic advice.

●      Foster and Nurture Online Community Engagement: Build and maintain an active online community, encouraging dialogue, participation, and connections among followers around strategic narratives and issues.

●      Implement Research-Informed Narrative Strategies: Activate IllumiNative’s groundbreaking research within communication strategies, applying these insights to enhance narrative framing and content resonance.

●      Conduct Training and Capacity Building: Lead training sessions for team members on social media best practices, fostering a consistent and informed approach across IllumiNative.

●      Support and Oversee Social Media Crisis Management: Assist in crafting and overseeing effective crisis communication plans on social media platforms, ensuring that all responses are in alignment  with IllumiNative's core values and Community Guidelines.

●      Other Duties as Assigned: Be prepared to undertake additional responsibilities as needed to support IllumiNative’s evolving needs.

Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Ability

●      Bachelor's degree is required.

●      Minimum 2 years’ experience in an operations role at a nonprofit, tribal or related organization.

●      Experience working directly within Communications Strategy. They should have previous experience developing and operationalizing social media strategy and plans for a program or organization.

●      Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive, credible, and polished communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills. Must be a strong copy editor with attention to detail.

●      Ability to collaborate and communicate with internal as well as external partners and other organizations.

●      Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people.

●      Integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed with a demonstrated passion for IllumiNative’s mission and commitment to working collaboratively with a team of professionals.

●      A team player, who can interrelate and operate effectively with peers and other associates within a collegial, fast-paced, work environment.

●      An individual who is able to handle a variety of constituencies, manage multiple tasks simultaneously and thrive in a complex environment with multiple priorities.

●      Innovative thinker, with a track record for translating strategic thinking into action plans and output.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary range: $68,000-$78,000
