Position Overview

The Division of Mental Health is seeking to hire an energetic and detail-oriented Chief of Social Work to administer and coordinate facility-wide social work services and to oversee and review clinical programming developed by lower-level Social Work staff providing direct patient care, clinical training, and interdisciplinary consultation. He/she will oversee consultation and training of staff to ensure clinical services are appropriate to the consumer population with acute mental health needs.

Job Responsibilities

1. Serves as the Chief of Social Work for the Joliet Inpatient Treatment Center (JITC).

2. Directs the development and coordination of assessments, data collection, program planning, and implementation activities.

3. Serves as full-line supervisor.

4. Determines a means for evaluating and monitoring social work performance improvement activities for the facility.

5. Serves as a member of the Hospital Executive Committee, Governing Board and facility management committees.

6. Performs other duties as assigned or required which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Requires a Master's Degree in Social Work from an accredited school of social work, supplemented by three (3) years of progressively responsible professional experience in a recognized social work services agency.

2. Requires licensure by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.

Preferred Qualifications (in priority order)

1. Three (3) years of professional experience planning and implementing a social work services program for individuals with mental illness.

2. Two (2) years of professional experience performing social work activities in the evaluation and treatment of individuals.

3. Two (2) years of managerial experience in a public or private organization that delivers inpatient or outpatient psychiatric services.

4. Two (2) years of professional supervisory experience.

5. Two (2) years of professional experience assessing, developing and implementing training activities for a public or private organization.

6. Three (3) years of professional experience communicating in oral and written from with internal and external stakeholders.

7. One (1) year of basic proficiency in the use of office equipment, including computers.

Conditions of Employment

1. Requires the ability to work on-call, after business hours, weekends and holidays.

2. Requires ability to pass the IDOC background check.

3. Requires ability to pass a drug screen. On January 1, 2020, the Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act made it legal for residents over the age of 21 to produce, consume and sell cannabis in Illinois. Please note that although the law has changed, the Department will continue to enforce the Department’s zero tolerance Drug Testing policy. The use of unauthorized drugs, including cannabis, by an employee, regardless of the position held is prohibited.
