Position Overview
The Division of Rehabilitation Services is seeking to hire a Physical Education Teacher, teaching students with low vision or blindness for the Illinois School for the Visually Impaired (ISVI). This position creates, plans and implements lessons and unit plans in Physical Education/Health aligned to current standards using specialized, adapted techniques consistent with teaching students with low vision or blindness as defined by an IEP; assists in the selection, design, and or modification of written, sequential, instructional curricula designed to meet the needs of the ISVI student population; updates the attendance database, keeps current grades and maintains discipline in class and between classes; maintains effective working relationships with students, parents, stakeholders and staff; supervises students swimming activities; and updates inventory needs and supervises the use of classroom equipment and students.

Job Responsibilities
1. Serves as a Physical Education Teacher teaching students with low vision or blindness for the Illinois School for the Visually Impaired (ISVI).
2. Assists in the selection, design, and or modification of written, sequential, instructional curricula designed to meet the needs of the ISVI student population.
3. Maintains effective working relationships with students, parents, stakeholders, and staff.
4. Supervises students swimming activities.
5. Updates the attendance database, keeps current grades, and maintains discipline in class and between classes.
6. Updates inventory needs and supervises the use of classroom equipment and students.
7. Performs other duties as assigned or required which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications
1. Requires the possession of current and valid ISBE-issued Professional Educator License with endorsement in the area of Physical Education/Health.

Preferred Qualifications
1. Additional endorsement in any area of special education such as teacher of the visually impaired or learning behavior specialist I (LBSI).
2. One (1) year of professional experience working with students displaying a wide range of behavior.
3. One (1) year of professional experience maintaining effective working relationships with students, parents, stakeholders, and staff.
4. One (1) year of professional experience demonstrating proper body technique/alignment to prevent injury during various exercises.
5. One (1) year of professional experience using the tools, material and equipment associated with physical education.
6. Three (3) years of professional experience teaching adaptive aquatic skills with disabling conditions such as: blindness, low vision and/or physical impairment.

Conditions of Employment
1. Requires ability to move, lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
2. Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
3. Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
