Times Printing, LLC

Responsibilities and Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Must possess a thorough knowledge of the entire printing process, including an understanding of all pre-press and finishing operations
  • Supervise the press crew and the running of the press
  • Produce and approve preliminary make-ready
  • Must be able to read and understand the job ticket, layout sheet, artwork and other specifications before beginning the assigned job (reporting any questions or problems to the shift supervisor)
  • Rule sheet out for inspecting trims, straightness, correctness of folds and to be checked against bluelines and artwork
  • Interpret color bars, star targets, side guide marks and slur indicators to control print quality
  • Check press sheets for marks and abrasions on both sides of sheet and be able to trace to origin
  • Pull and label customer samples and store copies
  • Record the quantity of good sheets furnished on job ticket, along with completed paperwork for each job
  • Pull time pulls for Quality Control, Sales and/or CSR
  • Direct the work tasks of the press crew
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Press Manager and/or shift supervisor
  • Responsible for entire press operation and maintain a healthy attitude with the press crew
  • Maintain color during run with color “OK” sheets
  • Check the plates before mounting for visible imperfections
  • Achieve color “OK” to proofs and sign “OK” stickers
  • Record the quantity of ink used on the printed job and quantity of PMS ink returned
  • Notify supervisor If and when press time is lost in large amounts due to breakdown or slowdown. Supervisor will notify Scheduling if schedule adjustments are necessary
  • Makeready folders to produce correct finished signatures
  • Notify supervisor when major maintenance is needed
  • Notify Maintenance Dept. when repairs are needed
  • Keep work area clean and orderly
  • Ensure load tickets are correct
  • Direct the housekeeping and wash up procedures
  • Perform routine maintenance on all assigned equipment
  • Record time and materials on daily time sheet
  • Record maintenance and roller and blanket replacement in proper logs
  • Directing the training of new personnel on press
  • Follow all required Safety Procedures such as: PPEs, Ergonomics, Chemical Hazards, Hearing Protection, etc.
  • Perform job in a manner that protects the health and safety of all employees
  • Prompt and regular attendance

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required

  • Experience required; minimum 4 years with web-offset press
  • A Technical or Vocation degree in Graphic Arts is preferred
  • Good eye for color and mechanical aptitude (able to pass color test)
  • Intimate knowledge of the mechanics and capabilities of the press
  • Adequate experience in running, troubleshooting and quality control on a press of similar size and complexity
  • Ability to follow written job instructions and set up the press to carryout instructions
  • Must understand basic math functions and have a thorough knowledge of problem-solving on press operations
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Must possess basic computer knowledge to locate and print job tickets and produce load tags
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence and ability to speak effectively before customers or employees of organization
  • Must have ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form and to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; use hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
  • Must be adaptable and flexible and have the ability to recognize performance and limitations of others and to effectively help them overcome their limitations and achieve their maximum potential, or report to supervisor if limitations will not allow it

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

  • Mandatory hearing protection while in the production area of the plant
  • During normal production, direct chemical exposure is moderate. However, during setting up and cleaning, Press Department personnel are exposed to a number of chemicals including ink and blanket wash
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses and chemical protective gloves are required with use of any chemicals
  • Required standing for the majority of the shift
  • Lifting maximum is approximately 90 pounds (roll shafts)
  • Temperature ranges are on the warm side all year long

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $22.00 - $26.00 per hour
