Race and Qualitative Methods
The Department of Sociology in the Maxwell School of Citizenship & Public Affairs invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level to begin Fall 2021. We are seeking a scholar of race with preference given to applicants who specialize in African American/Black American/Black immigrant experiences and issues, and have an active research program that uses field-based qualitative research methods. The successful candidate for this position will be expected to teach graduate and undergraduate courses in qualitative research methods, with an emphasis on interviewing and ethnography, in addition to substantive courses on race and related topics. Preference will be given to candidates who can contribute to other strengths in the sociology department (please visit https://www.maxwell.syr.edu/soc/Faculty_Research_Areas/) as well as to Maxwell School-wide priorities.
Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Sociology or a related discipline and must show potential for success in scholarly achievement and productivity, as well as a commitment to graduate and undergraduate teaching. The department seeks candidates whose research, teaching, and service have prepared them to contribute to our commitment to diversity and inclusion in higher education.
