Truckee Meadows Water Authority (TMWA) is a not-for-profit, community-owned water utility, overseen by elected officials and citizen appointees from Reno, Sparks and Washoe County. TMWA has a highly skilled workforce who ensure the around-the-clock treatment, delivery and availability of high-quality drinking water for more than 475,000 residents of the Truckee Meadows.
We are looking to hire a PHYSICAL SECURITY TECHNICIAN, to join our HUMAN RESOURCES Department.
POSITION SUMMARY
Under general supervision, the Physical Security Technician carries out detailed instructions, procedures, and tasks primarily oriented to ensure the operational status of security systems. Incumbents at this level have an intermediate level of security experience and are expected to exercise independent judgement and sound decision making. Physical Security Technicians (PST) are responsible for supporting the Physical Security Specialist (PSS) with the maintenance, troubleshooting, repair and/or replacement of security equipment, performing site security inspections, and the preventive maintenance needed to keep security systems and equipment fully operational. The PST is expected to represent and enforce the TMWA Security Management Program (SMP) and supporting security policies, procedures, and protocols while working to protect our critical infrastructure.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the minimum requirements is:
Experience: Three (3) years of relevant experience or an Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field of study with one (1) year of relevant work experience.
Must have prior experience using major enterprise level platforms for Video Management Systems (VMS) and Physical Control Access Systems (CAS). Preferred security, military, law enforcement or similar experience.
Education & Training: High school diploma or certificate of high school equivalency.
Other combinations of education/experience may be considered.
Must have working-level knowledge of the English language including reading, writing, and speaking English.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSURE, AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation. During hire by TMWA and periodically during employment, background investigations may be conducted.
This position is considered a safety-sensitive position and employment is contingent upon the results of drug and/or alcohol testing which includes screening for marijuana. The presence of marijuana or other screened for substances on any employment related substance test may result in a refusal to hire or termination of employment.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
Relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective security operations for the protection of TMWA assets. Knowledge of business principles involved in basic water utility operations is preferred. Video surveillance systems and equipment. In depth knowledge of work control processes, facility monitoring and escorting procedures. Modern equipment and communication tools used for business functions, project management, and task coordination including computers and common office computer software and database programs, including the Microsoft Suite of Programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.) Modern security methods, techniques, and procedures, including basic methods, techniques, procedures, and practices of criminal investigation.
Skilled in/Ability to:
Identify when something is wrong or likely to go wrong; apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers or outcomes that make sense; use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems; convey information effectively when talking to others and comprehend information and ideas presented by others; give full attention to what other people are saying and understand relevant points; understand and interpret written work-related documents; proficiently use the Windows operating systems including Outlook, XLS, PPT, Word andor other similar Office suite platforms in common use; consider the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one. Safely and frequently drive up to 100 miles a day to various locations, including those requiring four-wheel drive to access and get in and out of a vehicle up to 50 times per day to inspect critical infrastructure. Enter confined spaces, ascend, and descend stairs and ladders, and work in the field including in various outdoor locations which may include traversing through rough terrain and weather conditions. Make decisions that demonstrate honesty, integrity, and accountability in line with TMWA’s reliability and customer service goals.
