Job Summary
Service oriented position promoting the health and wellness of the campus community by facilitating safe and effective facility operations related to recreation and fitness.

Education/Qualifications

  • Good Conduct and Academic Standing with the college.
  • Sheridan College Student currently enrolled.
  • Cumulative GPA is 2.0 or greater.
  • Adult CPR/AED and First Aid Certification

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Interest and experience in Sports, Recreation and Officiating. Outgoing, energetic, comfortable with public speaking.
  • Highly organized and able to work without direct supervision.
  • Strong independent decision-making skills.
  • Ability to maintain a safe environment in the gym, on the field and at special events.
  • Confidence to work with a variety of individuals, take initiative, and approach patrons who are violating rules or conduct policies.
  • Awareness of, and appreciation for, individual uniqueness and diversity.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift 25lbs.
  • Late night, weekend and school break hours may be required.
  • Working outside in various weather conditions including rain, snow, cold and heat.

Responsibility/Duty

  • Always maintain surveillance of patrons. This includes supervision of peers and SC staff.
  • Overseeing access to the facility including checking IDs and monitoring for safety and security of the building.
  • Regularly inspect all equipment for correct operation, damages and cleanliness.
  • Understand and enforce NWCCD, Campus Life, and fitness center policies, procedures and conduct expectations. Properly report any violations.
  • Assist in marketing and promotion of Campus Recreation events including recruiting participants.
  • Feel comfortable using and demonstrating all the equipment.
  • Plan, organize and oversee special events. Includes purchasing supplies, advertising and engaging with participants.
  • Correctly track and report participants, gym usage, scores, statistics and other data for the Sports and Recreation program.
  • Assist in evaluation of program effectiveness, surveys, learning outcomes and measurements of participants.
  • Knowledge of sports rules and officiating protocols and playing guidelines. Officiate intramural sports. Training provided.
  • Set up and take down equipment including, but not limited to: volleyball nets, basketball hoops, soccer goals.
  • Responsible for opening, closing and operation of fitness center while on duty.
  • Correctly and accurately track and report patrons, equipment damage, maintenance and other data.
  • Responsible for learning, reviewing and following emergency procedures.
  • Conduct proper sanitation and thorough cleaning of equipment, shared spaces and common-use objects. Inspect and organize equipment, updating regular logs as necessary.
  • Neat and clean appearance necessary. Close toed shoes are required.
  • Required to attend all trainings and meetings as scheduled. Includes pre-employment training in August before school starts, professional development trainings, and diversity and inclusion training.
  • Other duties as assigned.
