Job Title:                    Stationary Engineer Where:                        Poolesville, MD in support of NIH Pay Rate:                   $41.00/hr. plus benefits Benefits:                    Full Contract Benefits   Description: The Stationary Engineer is responsible for the safe operation and maintenance of a wide range of Facility Operations equipment, including (2) 40,000 lb/hr and (2) 16,000 lb/hr boilers, (3) 1200 Ton Chillers, pumps, generators, motors, air conditioning systems, heat exchangers and refrigeration equipment, in addition to associated auxiliary equipment (air compressors, electrical switchgear, pumps, etc.).   The Stationary Engineer operates and maintains one or more systems that provide an establishment with such services as heat, air-conditioning (cool, humidify, dehumidify, filter, and circulate air), refrigeration, steam or high-temperature water or electricity.   Duties involve: observing and interpreting readings on gauges, meters and charts which register various aspects of the system's operation, adjusting controls to insure safe and efficient operation of the system and to meet demands for the service provided, recording in logs various aspects of the system's operation, keeping the engines, machinery and equipment of the system in good working order. This engineer may direct and coordinate activities of other workers in performing tasks directly related to operating and maintaining the system or systems. Responsible for installation, repairs and troubleshooting steam or high-temperature water systems malfunctions. Responsible for coordinating preventative maintenance on heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment. Responsible for utilizing wire diagrams, schematics, blueprints, and drawings to guide repairs and maintenance. Responsible for directing and guiding workers who connect motors, compressors, temperature controls, and circulating ventilation fans to control panels and connect control panels to power source. Communicates and interacts directly with the customer, informing the customer of unexpected or additional repairs and determining customer needs. Responds to customer inquiries and complaints. Make difficult diagnoses and suggest solutions and repairs to customer. Communicates with scheduler to update status of repairs and estimate completion dates. Responds to customer inquiries and complaints. Ensures completed work meets quality control standards. Assists with orienting and training new employees and assists in work assignments. Maintain professionalism in both appearance and demeanor. All Other Duties/Projects as Assigned Licenses, Certifications, etc.: Licensed by the State of Maryland, as a Stationary Engineer, Grades 1 and 2 preferred but will consider all grades.  Must currently hold and maintain a valid state Driver License. Must be able to obtain and maintain coverage by HMG’s insurance carrier. Must have a CFC refrigeration certification.  Must have the ability to acquire Security Clearances as required. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:  Experience in all areas of general contracting/industrial maintenance. Ability to work in a variety of different environments, including inclement weather and high man lifts. Ability to read and understand schematics and blueprints. Ability to work in team environment. Must be able to communicate with others in a courteous and helpful way. Job requires good manual dexterity, eye-hand coordination, physical fitness, a good sense of balance.
